Show Notes

Sharing your story on your website is a way that most of us will engage with our client-base and our audience. It’s really the “front of shop” for your business that provides people a glimpse of who you are and what you offer. It’s the way that you initially reach and engage with potential clients and your About Page is the second most often visited page on your website.

Some important things to remember when you are crafting your story:

  • Your Most Aligned client is often you, just a few years ago and that person doesn’t necessarily have a big story, just a very authentic and realistic one. It’s the shared experiences and challenges that provide the connection – the “I’ve been in your shoes”.
  • Join the conversation that is already going on in their head – use the language they use, identify with their thoughts and feelings.
  • Your About page should not read like a CV or be written in the third person – it needs to feel like a warm and natural conversation

About the speaker

Emma is multi-passionate, and divides her attention between three businesses: WorkLifeBliss, My 15 Minutes and The Storytelling Business. Her words have been published many times in the national print and online media, including on Mamamia, Kidspot and in her regular column for HerCanberra. She has presented writing and social media workshops over many years.

She has a BA (Hons), Dip Ed, Grad Cert (Professional Communication) and coaching and training qualifications.

Emma Grey fell into the communications business as a hybrid novelist/business owner. She was getting all "Trinny & Susannah" about web copy, jumping out at unsuspecting business owners and dressing their scruffy copy in playful, head-turning prose—just for the buzz of the 'reveal'.

With teen girls, Hannah and Sophie, a four-year-old son, Sebastian and two young adult step-children, her life is beautifully chaotic. She loves writing, running and Jamie Fraser, from Outlander, probably not in that order… and lives near Canberra.
